Authentication
API key
Plans and access
All SendGrid plans. Marketing Campaigns contacts need a Marketing Campaigns plan (Free or paid); email activity needs the Email Activity History add-on; the EU region needs a Pro plan or above. API keys can be limited to scopes; grant Mail Send, Marketing, Suppressions (read), Templates (read), Stats (read) and Email Activity (read) as needed.
Test environment
Use a free account and the sandbox mode mail setting to validate sends without delivery.
Rate limits
Per-endpoint limits reported in X-RateLimit-Limit/Remaining/Reset headers; HTTP 429 when exceeded. Contact search has its own low limit and email activity allows few requests per minute.
Provider events
Event Webhook for delivery, open, click, bounce, spam report and unsubscribe events. Nexra event triggers are not yet available; flows run on demand or on a schedule.
Before you build a flow
- Contact reads return at most 50 contacts (SendGrid's sample and SGQL search limits); full exports are asynchronous and not implemented.
- SendGrid contacts carry no consent field: opt-outs live in global unsubscribes and unsubscribe-group suppressions, which Nexra reads but never changes.
- Contact upsert is asynchronous; read the returned job with contact_imports.get to learn the outcome.
- Mail send has no idempotency key and repeated requests send again; uncertain sends are not repeated automatically. Recipients are limited to 50 in one personalization so the operation cannot broadcast to audiences.
- Marketing single sends and automations, suppression changes and all deletes are not implemented.
- Email activity requires the paid Email Activity History add-on; without it SendGrid returns HTTP 403.
