Validation status

Implemented · fixture tested.

Implementation is checked against provider-shaped fixtures for every action, authentication failures, rate limits, pagination and duplicate safety. Provider sandbox and authorised account validation are recorded separately when credential-backed runs are completed.

Authentication

Gusto OAuth application with a refresh token (rotated on every refresh)

Plans and access

Gusto companies that authorise a Gusto developer application. Requires an OAuth application from the Gusto Developer Portal; each token is bound to one company. Scopes: companies:read, employees:read, employees:write, jobs:read, compensations:read, departments:read, departments:write, contractors:read, time_off_policies:read, time_off_requests:read, employee_time_off_activities:read, payrolls:read, pay_schedules:read.

Test environment

Developer accounts include demo companies on api.gusto-demo.com.

Rate limits

200 requests per rolling 60 seconds per application and user; HTTP 429 with Retry-After.

Pagination

page and per (max 100) with X-Total-Pages response headers.

Provider events

Gusto webhooks for employee, payroll, company and contractor events. Nexra event triggers are not yet available; flows run on demand or on a schedule.

Before you build a flow

  • Requests pin X-Gusto-API-Version 2026-06-15.
  • The token refresh is sent form-encoded; Gusto documents a JSON body, so form encoding is not verified against a live account.
  • Gusto has no updated-since filter for employees; flows read the full list.
  • Payrolls, compensations, time off and pay schedules are read only. Nexra never creates, calculates or submits payroll, and does not write compensation.
  • Employee updates cover name, email, work email and phone; SSN and date of birth are never sent or mapped.
  • Time-off activities support only the vacation and sick types, as documented.
  • Deletes are not implemented. Department creation has no idempotency key; Gusto rejects duplicate department names.

Developer reference

  1. Create the Gusto, Inc. credentials described above with the narrowest permissions your flows need.
  2. In Nexra, open Connect, then Connections, then New connection, choose Gusto, enter its settings and credentials, and tick only the write actions you need. Connection guide
  3. Test the connection, then use its actions as flow sources and destinations. Flow guide
