Authentication
API key
Plans and access
All ActiveCampaign plans include the API; deals and accounts need a plan with the CRM features. The API key carries the permissions of the user it belongs to. Each user has their own key.
Test environment
ActiveCampaign offers a free trial and developer accounts on request.
Rate limits
5 requests per second per account; HTTP 429 with Retry-After.
Provider events
Account webhooks for subscribe, unsubscribe, contact update, deal and campaign events. Nexra event triggers are not yet available; flows run on demand or on a schedule.
Before you build a flow
- List subscription status changes only through contact_lists.upsert, which requires an explicit status. Contact create, update and sync never change list subscriptions or tags.
- Re-subscribing a contact who unsubscribed themselves (status 2 → 1) should only be done with their renewed consent.
- Campaign sends, automation enrolment changes and all deletes are not implemented.
- ActiveCampaign documents no idempotency key; contact, deal, list and note creates are not repeated automatically when uncertain.
- Contact custom field values are written by field ID; read definitions with fields.list.
